They were goddesses of the Ocean's rich bounty and protectors of sailors and fishermen, coming to the aid of those in distress. The Nereides were able to entice and tame the creatures of the Aegean Sea with their alluring beauty. The fish tailed horses known as Hippokampoi, became their trusted mounts.
